The Wahiba Sands stretch over 12,000 square kilometres — a sea of golden and rust-red dunes that is home to Bedouin families, desert foxes and some of the most spectacular sunsets in Arabia.
A Night in the Desert
The classic Wahiba experience is an overnight stay at a desert camp. You'll arrive by 4WD over the dunes in the late afternoon, watch the sun drop behind the ridges, dine under the stars and sleep in a comfortable tent — from simple Bedouin-style camps to luxury glamping with proper beds and private bathrooms.
Mornings in the desert are magical: cool air, long shadows and absolute silence broken only by the wind over the sand.

- Sunrise over the dunes — worth the early wake-up
Things to Do
Beyond the sunset, you can try sandboarding down the steeper faces, ride a camel with a local Bedouin guide, visit a Bedouin family to learn about desert life, or simply climb a high dune and take in the emptiness — a rare luxury in the modern world.
Practical Tips
Desert nights can be surprisingly cool from November to March, so bring a light jacket. The best season is October to April; summer visits are possible but very hot. All desert driving should be done with an experienced driver — the dunes are no place to learn off-roading.
