Sur is a historic seafaring town on Oman's eastern coast, famous for its traditional dhow shipyards, its lighthouse-topped corniche and as the gateway to the turtle beaches of Ras Al Hadd.
What to See
Sur's dhow yard is one of the last places in Arabia where great wooden ships are still built by hand. The corniche, the Al Ayjah watchtowers and the lighthouse offer beautiful views over the lagoon.
Nearby, Ras Al Hadd and Ras Al Jinz are among the most important green turtle nesting sites in the world — guided night visits let you watch turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.

Around Sur
Sur is the natural base for Wadi Shab, Wadi Tiwi and the Bimmah Sinkhole on the coastal road back to Muscat — one of the most scenic drives in the country.
Practical Tips
Turtle watching requires booking a guided visit and following the rangers' instructions. Stay overnight in Sur or at the Turtle Beach Resort to catch both the evening and early-morning turtle viewings.
