Bahla is one of Oman's oldest towns, home to a UNESCO World Heritage fort, a legendary 12-kilometer mud-brick wall and a pottery tradition that continues to this day.
What to See
Bahla Fort is one of the oldest and largest forts in Oman, restored to show how a medieval oasis settlement functioned. Its towers and ramparts look out over the old town and palm groves.
The town is also famous for its pottery — watch artisans shape clay on traditional wheels in workshops near the souq — and for old legends of magic that locals still tell with a smile.

Nearby
Just a few kilometers away, Jabrin Castle is one of the most beautifully preserved castles in Oman, with painted ceilings, carved doors and the story of Imam Bil'arub bin Sultan, who made it his residence in the 17th century.
Practical Tips
Bahla fits naturally between Nizwa and Jebel Akhdar on a cultural loop. Allow one to two hours for the fort, and combine it with Jabrin Castle on the same visit.
